The inspiration for my paintings comes from over 55 years of observing people engaged in non-heroic work conducted out of doors and and in interior spaces. I am a third generation Block Islander and have engaged in many of the jobs Block Islanders do to survive annually. I often combine my interest in local marine history and the fishing craft from the mid 1800’s up to the present with my interest in basic labor. These historic recreations of those days before motors and ship-to-shore radios help me develop a better understanding of my ancestors and the community that has evolved on this beautiful island.
