I’m a native New Englander. So my body of work is saturated with its nautical scenes and historic places. To me, they stand out as timeless reminders of life in America’s northeast. Still, my Italian heritage draws me toward the compositional structure of Tuscany’s countryside. And, so I paint that. My formal schooling imposes on me a love of classic realism. Hence, my continuing work on portraits.
Just as my varied background has driven me to paint a wide variety of subjects, my temperament has freed me away from the normal limits of a single regimented style. This is by natural design. I paint sometimes toward abstraction...but mostly very realistically. And often I combine both styles within the same work. Throughout, my technique remains unchanged.Whether realistic landscapes and marine paintings or impressionistic canvasses of a city at night, my works typically resonate with color. Pushing colors allows my painting to better communicate the sentiment and mood of a subject...and its true identity.Often, while applying paint, I embed objects found at the sight of the picture. I believe a painting of a beach, for example, carries more authenticity and personality when it actually contains sand found on that beach.
In each of my paintings, I seek to create a memoir that will awaken memories.
